Tokyo 2020 Para-Badminton

The IPC has announced the details of the Sports Programme for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. The announcement included the total number of athletes by sport and the medal events for each of the 22 sports on the programme.

Badminton has been allocated 90 athlete slots across 14 medal events for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. The 14 medal events offer opportunities for wheelchair players (6 medal events), standing players (7 medal events) and short stature players (1 medal event for men) to qualify for Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

The Badminton Programme has singles, doubles and mixed doubles play with an emphasis on singles (10 medal events) to ensure a wider range of National Paralympic Committees qualifying athletes.

The qualification system for badminton for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games will be finalised from September to November 2017 and this will give the details on exactly how players can qualify for badminton at the Games. The IPC will publish the Qualification Guide in January 2018.
